Olympian Bertland Cameron, now in his first season as head track and field coach at The Mico University College, was very pleased last Saturday after seeing the performances of some of his athletes at the Douglas Forrest meet at the National Stadium.

Several of his charges finished among the top three in their events, competing against some top high school athletes. Among those competing on Saturday were Dawnalee Loney, Samantha James, Alex Hutton, Romario Foote, AndrE Leveridge and Davie Brown who all finished among the top three in their events.

" It was indeed a good opening for the Mico athletes on Saturday," Cameron said. "They have put in some hard work since September, and they have been rewarded with good results," said Cameron.

" I was extremely pleased with all, especially with James who won the girls' open 1500 metres in a personal best 4:54.22, Hutton who was second in the boys' 1500m in 4:07.35, Loney with a third-place finish in the girls' 800m in 2:23.62 and Romario Foote, third in the 5000m open in 16:48.65," said Cameron.

Cameron thinks things will get better.

"All the athletes have been responding well so far to the training, and I am looking forward to this weekend's meet at Calabar, the McKenley/Wint Invitational where the likes of Genekee Leith, Tiffany James and Javere Bell will make their season debuts," he added.

Cameron, who is also the head coach of Cameron Blazers Track Club, will also have some of those athletes competing on Saturday, and is excited to be a part of this history making meet.

"Herb McKenley was like a father to me throughout my career, and I would never miss a meet like this for anything else as this is really a special moment for me and my athletes," concluded Cameron.
