A Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) constable has been taken into custody after two prohibited firearms were seized during a targeted intelligence-led operation in Florence Hill, St Andrew, earlier today.

According to the JCF High Command, the arrest follows a coordinated raid on a premises as part of an ongoing investigation into illicit firearms trafficking. Intelligence reportedly indicated that the officer was involved in the illegal sale of guns.

The High Command described the development as a major breakthrough in the force's fight against the illegal gun trade, which remains one of its top crime-fighting priorities.

"Members of the JCF are entrusted with extraordinary powers and public confidence. Any breach of that trust, especially involving criminal conduct, will be met with swift and uncompromising consequences," the JCF said in a statement, stressing that there is no place in the organisation for officers who use their positions to undermine the law.

The JCF has pledged to continue its efforts to root out corruption and criminality at all levels, leveraging intelligence, operational coordination, and investigative expertise to dismantle criminal networks.

Operations are ongoing, and the police say further details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
