Myers making strides in Canada - Jamaican appointed Director, Interuniversity and High-Performance Athletics at University of Toronto
Former Director of Sport at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, Dalton Myers, has been appointed as Director, Interuniversity and High Performance Athletics, at The University of Toronto.
This announcement was made by the University of Toronto Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education via the school's website on Monday.
The Clarendon native, and Clarendon College and Glenmuir High School alumnus, is slated to begin his post on September 2.
His academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and International Relations from the UWI, Master of Sports Administration from Ohio University, and Master of Philosophy in Cultural Studies.
Along with his academic achievements, Myers brings over a decade of senior leadership experience in university and elite sport through his work at UWI, Queen's University and Carleton University.
Myers has international experience through his work with the Jamaica Olympic Association, including the Pan Am Games, Commonwealth Games, and World Para Junior Athletics Championships, which also highlights his ability to work with different stakeholders of sports to achieve high performances.
"Myers' appointment reflects the university's continued investment in building a world-class student-athlete experience and the next chapter of athletic success at U of T," the faculty stated in Myers' appointment announcement on the school's website.
The Jamaican's new appointment will see him overseeing the Varsity Blues programme, blue and white teams, high performance sport academies, and student-athlete support programmes. He will also have the responsibility to advance coaching excellence, equity-driven programme development, and comprehensive support for student athletes.
Myers has also taken on other roles in Canada as he currently serves on the Board of the Canadian Centre for Mental Health and Sport, and as Chair of the Ontario University Athletics Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee.
