Akmal’s century carries Pakistan Champions past WI
LEEDS, England (CMC):
A brilliant century by Pakistan's Kamran Akmal condemned West Indies Champions to their third defeat in four matches in the World Championship of Legends, as they went down by 49 runs on Saturday.
Akmal slammed 113 off just 62 balls with 13 fours and five sixes to help Pakistan post an imposing 200 for four from their 20 overs after they won the toss and chose to bat.
Captain Mohammad Hafeez chipped in with 23 and Sharjeel Khan made 21.
Faced with the challenging task of scoring just over 10 runs an over, West Indies Champions never recovered after Rumman Raes dismissed openers Chris Gayle and Dwayne Smith along with Lendl Simmons cheaply and were restricted to 151 for seven in their 20 overs.
Chadwick Walton topscored with 42 from 30 balls, Dwayne Bravo hit an unbeaten 30, Wayne Perkins scored 30 and Ashley Nurse made 25.
Raes ended with the impressive figures of 3-4 from three overs, Aamer Yamin took 2-23 and Sohail Tanvir 2-23.
It was Pakistan's third win in as many matches and bumped them up to second in the table, while West Indies remain fourth on two points with a solitary win in their four matches.
