Ackeem Blake registers 100m win in Germany
Following his fourth-place finish in the men's 100 metres at the London Diamond League meet, World Athletics Championships-bound Ackeem Blake returned to winning form yesterday at the ISTAF Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany -- a World Continental Tour Silver meet.
Blake clocked 10.05 seconds to finish ahead of Germany's Owen Ansah (10.18) and Nigeria's Ududi Onwuzotie (10.22).
Sprint hurdler Hansle Parchment, the Tokyo Olympics champion, was second in the men's 110m hurdles in 13.26. Tatsuki Abe of Japan won in 13.23 while Oumor Doudai Abakar of Qatar was third in 13.37. Jamaica's Lafranz Campbell ended eighth in 13.59.
Many-time national shot put champion Danniel Thomas-Dodd placed third in her event with a heave of 18.82m. Fanny Roos of Sweden won with 19.04m and Germany's Yemisi Ogunlaye claimed second with 18.88m.
Former national senior representative Christania Williams was sixth in the women's 100m, clocking 11.39. American Maia McCoy took top honours in 11.01.
Jodean Williams wins 100m at JAAA meet
Fourth-place finisher in the women's 100m at the Jamaica Senior Championships, Jodean Williams, won the event at the JAAA World Athletics Preparation Meet at Stadium East last Saturday.
Williams won comfortably in 11.18 (-1.2 mps). Roneisha McGregor of UWI, Mona, was second in 11.41 with Tri Tania Lowe of GC Foster College third in 11.54.
Former Hydel High skipper Alliah Baker picked up a win in the women's 200m. Representing Elite Performance Track Club, Baker stopped the clock at 24.00 (-1.5 mps), with Oneika Brissette, competing unattached, second in 24.28.
Shakar Williams of Titans Track Club captured the men's 100m in 10.23 (-1.2 mps). His teammate, Andre Bent, was second in 10.29, and Odaine Crooks of New Era Track Club placed third in 10.36.
Crooks returned to take the men's 200m in 20.75 (-1.2 mps), ahead of Demar Francis in 20.99.
Other winners on the day included Jevaughn Pinnock of New Era Track Club in the men's 400m with 47.80 and Aubrey Allen, who won the men's long jump with a leap of 7.41m.
