Marquis, Robertson top pentathlon at Ted Dwyer

Shakera Marquis of Happy Grove High and Rojay Robertson of Excelsior High were crowned respective girls' and boys' pentathlon champions at last Saturday's fifth staging of the Ted Dwyer Classics at Excelsior High School.

Marquis tallied 2,182 points to finish top among the girls.

In her first event, the 200 metres, she clocked 29.34 seconds for 529 points, followed by 7.44 metres in the shot put for 363 points, 4.44 metres in the long jump for 413 points, 21.28 metres in the javelin for 313 points, before closing out with the 800 metres in 2:40.78 minutes for 564 points.

Omarion Constable of Excelsior High ended second with 2,040 points, with Jamie Williams of Excelsior third with 1,660 points.

Robertson was the top boy after totalling 2,271 points.

In the opening event, the 400 metres, he clocked 55.13 seconds for 594 points. His mark in the shot put was 10.90 metres for 540 points, long jump 5.50 metres for 481 points, pole vault 2.76 metres for 286 points and in the 1,500 metres, he did 5:36.02 minutes to gain 370 points.

Te-var Hammond of St Mary's College finished second with 2,233 points, with his teammate Eric Bailey third with 1,548 points.

On the track, it was first, second and third for Excelsior in the Class One boys' 100 metres. Lennon Green won the event in 10.91 seconds, ahead of Damain Darlington with 11.13 and Ryeem Walker with 11.23.

In Class Two, Malieke Nugent came out on top in 11.22 seconds, while in Class Three, Jaedan Campbell, also of Excelsior, won in 11.39 seconds.

There were some excellent results in the field led by Edwin Allen High boys' and girls' teams.

Allien Cuffe led the way for Edwin in the Class One boys' discus, winning with a throw of 40.65 metres, ahead of teammates Ricardo Linton with 34.68 and Keneil Clarke with 33.65.

Cuff also captured the javelin with 50.70 metres as teammate Daniel Peterson was second with 50.20.

Excelsior's Daniel Thompson won the Class One boys' shot put with a heave of 12.30 metres.

Among the girls, Aaliah Gittens of Edwin Allen won the javelin with 32.70 metres, with Rihanna Panton of Happy Grove High second, with 29.15.

In the Class Three discus, Karie Williams of Edwin won with a record of 35.69 metres. Fabina Perry, with 33.27 metres and Shande Brown with 28.09 finished second and third, respectively, for an Edwin clean sweep.
