Murder suspect in Trinidad found hiding at lawyer’s office
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC - The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) says an attorney may face charges for harbouring a fugitive, after the main suspect in the death of a 22-year-old woman was found hiding in the lawyer's office.
The suspect is wanted in connection with the murder of Candace Honore, whose body was discovered in a black suitcase dumped in a pond in Sangre Grande last week. Honore, a resident of Valencia, had been reported missing since July 1. She was last seen leaving her workplace, and calls to her phone later went straight to voicemail.
According to police, the suspect had reportedly gone to the lawyer's office last Thursday seeking legal representation. The attorney allegedly quoted a fee, but the suspect was unable to pay in full. The lawyer reportedly advised him that he could stay at the office while waiting for relatives or friends to bring the remainder of the money. Once the payment was made, the lawyer said he would accompany the suspect to the police station to surrender.
Police now believe the suspect had been staying at the premises since Thursday, the same day Honore's body was found. Acting on information received, officers visited the attorney's office on Sunday, where they found and apprehended the suspect.
Investigations are ongoing.
