The past weekend has been great for Muschette High School athletes Johan Smythe and Shanoya Douglas.

Both were in fantastic form in the 200 metres at Friday's On Di Run Sprint Fest and the Pure Water/JC/R. Danny Williams Development meets at the Ashenheim Stadium on Saturday.

Competing in the Class Two girls' 200 metres on Friday, Douglas recorded the fastest time in the event after clocking 24.16 seconds, a time much quicker than defending ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships' (Champs) Class Two champion, Shemonique Hazle of Hydel, who won her heat in 24.64 seconds.

A day later, she returned to the same venue where she clocked 11.79 seconds in the Class Two girls' 100 metres and 55.53 in the Open girls' 400 metres.

Only Edwin Allen High School's Theinna-Lee Terrelonge with 11.30 and Lacovia's Sabrina Dockery with 11.45 bettered her time in the 100 metres. In the 400, her time was only bettered by Edwin's Class One pair of Tonyan Campbell, who clocked a personal best 53.93 seconds and Kellyann Carr's 55.37.

Smythe raced to an impressive personal best of 21.89 seconds in Class Two boys' 200 metres at Sprint Fest, where he finished second overall behind Calabar High's Nickecoy Bramwell, who ran a personal best of 21.77 seconds.

Competing in the Class Two boys 100 metres the following day he was the best, topping the field with an impressive 10.78 seconds.

Muschette's coach, Garth Smythe, the father of Johan, expects excellent performances from both athletes at the upcoming Champs.

"I am very proud of both athletes, and expectations are high going into the remainder of the season as the results have shown that they are both in tremendous form," said Smythe, who in the past had coaching stints at Green Pond High, Rusea's High and Merlene Ottey High schools.

"I am not surprised with their performances as they, along with the other members of the team, have put in the hard work, and it is paying off," said Smythe, who stated that getting his two athletes from scratch to make the Carifta team has been his top achievement so far as a coach.
