Jamaica College to honour four sports alumni
Four sports alumni of Jamaica College(JC), who played vital roles in the school's sports programme since departing, will be recognised for their contributions at Saturday's 30th staging of the Pure Water/JC/R. Danny Williams Development Meet at the Ashenheim Stadium on Old Hope Road.
The four to be honoured are Barrington Minott, Aldington Smith, Delroy Brown and David Robotham.
Minott, a former track and field athlete, will be honoured for over 30 years being a fundraiser and contributor, while Smith will be awarded for doing yeoman work as a member of JC's track and field management team for over 20 years.
Brown's recognition is for being a former Under-16 and Manning Cup footballer, and also a former Under-16 and Sunlight Cup cricketer. He is also a former assistant coach/trainer of their Manning Cup team.
Accolades will be bestowed on Robotham for the tremendous support he has given to several of JC's sporting teams for over 20 years. He also played Under-16 and Under-19 basketball for JC.
Meanwhile, the meet, which begins at 8:30 a.m., is a qualifier for this year's ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships and is officially sanctioned by ISSA, the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA), and World Athletics. Athletes will get ranking points based on their performances.
Over the years, the meet has been used to honour JC's past students who have contributed significantly since their departure, and this year will be no different.
