It has been a dream sports season so far for Glenmuir, having created history by becoming the first high school to reach two finals of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) top competitions in the same year - daCosta Cup football and rural Senior netball. On Saturday, they won their first Champions Cup schoolboy football title by clipping favourites Clarendon College 3-2 at the National Stadium, and today, metres away at the Leila Robinson Courts, their Senior netballers will be involved in another final.

The Ryan Reid-coached Glenmuir, who won their first All-Island Senior title last year, will tackle 12-time Senior champions Holmwood Technical High School at 4 p.m. in the rural Senior final.

The netballers today, similar to their footballers last Saturday, will be the underdogs despite unbeaten and being the defending champions, with the high-riding Carline Graham-Powell-coached Holmwood blowing away opponents all season with overwhelming wins and are also unbeaten.

Holmwood, however, in their semifinal on Tuesday against former champions Denbigh, were tested for the first time this season for the first two quarters before a magical change by coach Graham-Powell at the start of the third, provided a cushion in the scoreline.

Top player, vice-captain and centre Jessica Chaplain, who had suffered a broken arm in training, was inserted for her first game since the end of the first round of the competition, and she made a difference as Holmwood established a commanding lead before winning 38-28, their lower total and most concession all season.

This should provide hope for Glenmuir, who will take motivation from their daCosta Cup footballers' accomplishments to create more history by successfully defending their title.

Reid is very optimistic, with their title aspirations being led by the experienced national under-21 development squad duo of goal attack Nickeisha Powell and goal defence Fentonian Henry.

"We are in a good mood coming into the final as the girls have been working hard over the past couple weeks to gain some fitness," said Reid, who had several players missing in Glenmuir's 37-25 semifinal win over May Day.

"We had four players out on Tuesday because of illness, and they will be back for the final. We are coming all out to defend our title as the players are gelling well. We have seen Holmwood, and we know what to expect from them. We are ready to go," said Reid.

The urban Senior final will also be played today with defending champions St Catherine High and last year's beaten finalists Gaynstead High, the 2021 champions, duking it out at 5 p.m.

The rural and urban Junior finals will be played earlier.

Defending champions Holmwood and Manchester High will meet in the rural at 2 p.m., while at 3 p.m., The Queen's School will battle Wolmer's Girl's School in the urban final.
