Local track and field fans must wait until this Saturday at the National Senior Championships (Trials) at the National Stadium before seeing World Championships 100 metres defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in action.

Fraser-Pryce is not among the 29 athletes entered for the women's 100 metres for Trials, which will have the opening round on Thursday at 7:40 p.m. Fraser-Pryce has an automatic spot at the World Championships, being the defending 100 metres champion.

At Trials, she will appear on the track in a competition for the first time this season when she contests the preliminary round of the women's 200 metres, slated for 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The 200 metres will have 24 athletes in action, including the World Championships defending champion Shericka Jackson, the fastest Jamaican over the distance and world No. 2 this season, with 21.98 seconds.

Former national champion Elaine Thompson Herah will also be contesting the 200 metres and, like Jackson, is down for both sprinting events at the Trials.

It will be Thompson Herah's second time contesting the half-lap event this season, following her second-place finish in April at the Tom Jones Invitational meet in Gainsville, Florida.

Thompson Herah, who will be contesting the 100 metres for the second time this season after her 11.24 seconds win recently, clocked 23.23 seconds in the 200 metres, where the United States of America's Melissa Jefferson won in 23.02 seconds.

At last year's Trials, Jackson sped to an impressive 21.55 seconds to win the double, following her 100 metres success earlier at the meet. Thompson Herah finished second in that race ahead of Fraser-Pryce, third.
