All set for Purewater JC/ R Danny Williams meet
It is all systems go for tomorrow's staging of the 29th Purewater Jamaica College (JC)/R Danny Williams Development Meet at the Ashenheim Stadium on the campus of Jamaica College, Old Hope Road.
It will be one of two development meets, which will get this season's Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) track and field local calendar running as the fourth staging of the Ted Dwyer Classics will be held at Excelsior High School. Both meets begin at 8:30 a.m. and will be used as qualifiers for this year's Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships (Champs).
According to Meet Director of the Purewater JC/R Danny Williams meet, Ian Forbes, everything is in place.
"We are ready to stage another successful staging of the meet and entries are of a high level like previous years," said Forbes.
The organisers are sticking to the same schedule as last year.
"Female athletes will compete between 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and males will do so from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. We are sticking to this schedule like last year when we had the COVID pandemic restrictions because the feedback from schools and stakeholders is that it was very successful. We decided to continue and we will continue to do that in the future, but we will do it on a rotational basis as the males will compete first next year," concluded Forbes, who is also the First Vice-President of the JAAA.
As usual, several outstanding past students of the institution will be recognised and there are four honorees this year. They are Ortis Wynter, former athlete, sports master and coach; Duane Cunningham, basketball coach; Brandon Samns former under-14 and under-16 footballer; and Darren Virtue former footballer, who has been part of the Manning Cup management staff since 2011.
Events down for tomorrow's meet in track will be 100 metres, 100 metres hurdles, 110 metres hurdles, 400 metres, 800 metres, 1,500 metres, 3,000 metres Open for girls and 5,000 metres Open for boys.
