I've always loved H'Lion - Binns
Last season national midfielder Michael Binns played a pivotal role in helping Portmore United lift the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) title, but after spending his entire domestic career with the St Catherine club, the 30-year-old, who won three national titles with Portmore, wanted a new challenge.
As a result, the accomplished midfielder decided to make the switch to Humble Lion, a club that has been close to his heart for years and he hopes his presence and experience can help them snatch that elusive RSPL crown.
"I have been at Portmore since I left high school in 2007, and I just think it is time for a change," he told STAR Sports, after his team's 0-0 draw against his former side at the Prison Oval on Sunday.
"Humble Lion has always been one of my favourite teams because I am from Clarendon, where they are from, and I have always said that sometime in my career I would love to give them a season or two and that's what I am doing now," said the midfielder, who played in inspired form against his former club.
Even though Humble Lion started the season with two defeats and a draw, the dynamic midfielder has settled in well and believes that with a new coach, it is only a matter of time before they get it together and start winning games.
"So far I am doing well, even though I can do much better, but as they season goes on, and I get much fitter, I will be able to do more. Overall, we have a good set of players, but we need to gel quickly. We started badly and lost our first two games, but we got a point from the defending champions, so that's a positive note," he reasoned.
"To score and create as many goals as I can, that's my main objective, as I would love my contribution to help us to win the Premier League. Humble Lion has been knocking at the door for quite some time now. They have been to the semi-final three times. So with this group, if everyone is working together, I believe we can bring home the title to Clarendon," he commented.
"But if we want to be champions, we have to put away our chances and outscore teams. Today (on Sunday), we kept a clean sheet for the first time this season, and that is one of the most important things when you are trying to be champion," he added.
