Calabar cries foul
Calabar High School basketball coach Ludlow Barker has slammed the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) for poor administration of the ongoing high school championship.
Cabalar's win in game one of the best-of-three Under-19 Southern Conference final against Camperdown was ruled null and void and the game ordered replayed.
It is reported that Calabar players did not have their IDs for the encounter and a protest was launched by the Camperdown, which was upheld by ISSA.
Camperdown won the replay 52-45.
"I think that ISSA has always been bad for our sport," Barker told STAR Sports.
TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT
"Since ISSA has taken over basketball this is one of the worst-run leagues. Every day you hear you are going to play a game (on this day) and it is not played," he added.
Barker said the decision had a major influence on his players' performance.
"Thank goodness we have players out there who are trying their best to play the game of basketball that we coach" he added. ISSA Competitions Director George Forbes, however, said both teams were in breach of the rules and that the only solution was to void the game and have it replayed.
"Camperdown did not have all of their IDs and Calabar had none of their IDs. We ordered the game null and void because none of the teams had their full complement of IDs," Forbes said.
"Our rules are quite simple, and that is, you must have an ISSA-issued ID. The referees are the ones causing the problem. How do they know that a player has an ID? If I am the referee and I know you and I say you can play, that does not mean you satisfy the criteria," he said.
