STAR story helps St James woman find father
Within hours of her story appearing in Tuesday's edition of THE STAR, Annmarine Briscoe found her father.
"I have spoken with my father, who told me that he saw my mother some time ago, and he was going to try and connect us. I am his only child because his other child died. I was also told that I am the only girl for my mom and I have about four brothers. I have also spoken to my father's parents and other relatives as well," Briscoe said.
The 35-year-old woman spent years searching for her mother, Verona Merchant, and her father Uton Briscoe, without much success.
FUTURE MEETING
Now, she is breathing a sigh of relief. The mother of two, Briscoe is set to meet her father in Kingston in the near future.
"I am looking forward to meeting my family, but I can't imagine what meeting them will be like because I have grown so much now. I really don't know if it will be tearful for me or anything. It's hard to imagine what it will be like," Briscoe said.
She said that she is quite certain that the man she spoke to is her dad because he gave her details about her past that she didn't mention in the article.
"He told me some things that I remember about them when I was a child. I had earlier heard that my mom was just 12 when she had me and she was afraid of the scandal, and there were a few issues, so the State intervened and took me. I honestly remembered when I was much smaller and he came to one of the children's homes and tief me away, but because him never take mi the right way, the authorities came back and took me. I never mentioned that in the article, so when he told me about that, I knew that I have really met my dad," Briscoe said.
She told THE WEEKEND STAR that her father may have been unable to get in contact with her because she had stayed at several girls' homes during her teenage years.
