Only a week after the family members of 39-year-old Fritzroy Gordon appealed to the public for help in getting him money to do a bone marrow transplant, he passed away.

According to his sister Colleen Gordon, Fritzroy took his last breath last Saturday at 8:40 p.m.

She expressed gratitude to the members of the public who rallied around the family through their prayers, and those who donated and tried to help him get the help he needed.

"Our family is deeply saddened to inform you that our beloved Fritzroy passed ... After battling leukaemia for six months, he decided it was time to rest and peacefully transitioned during his sleep after saying his goodbyes. Our family is forever grateful for the love, prayers, encouraging words, blood, and monetary donations we received during this ordeal," his niece Simone Wallace wrote on the GoFundMe page before it was closed.

"We would like to extend heartfelt thank you to the oncologists, Drs Crawford and Taylor, his nurses, and all the wonderful staff at the Cornwall Regional Hospital who gave stellar service and went beyond the call of duty to make Fritzroy as comfortable as possible," the statement continued.

Expressed his love

Colleen said in the final moments before her brother took his last breath, he spoke to his family members individually and expressed his love for them.

"As we got there he called us individually and hugged us. This is what he said to me: 'Sis, you know I love you. The journey is rough, but I have to go now'," she said.

She said a week ago, her brother expressed that he wanted to die in his sleep and even though she is saddened by his passing, she is happy that he went the way he wanted to.

She said that when she realised that he died, she could not contain herself because she missed him very much.

But she is happy that he is not experiencing pain any more.

"He is in a better place now where he can continue to rest. Let's keep his spirit alive. Shawn was loved by all," she said.
