Detectives assigned to the Westmoreland Criminal Investigation Branch have charged 20-year-old Alaska Reid, otherwise called 'Masicka', a labourer of Dexter Street, Savanna-la-Mar, with wounding with intent following an incident in his community on Monday.

Reports are that at 11:40 a.m., Reid and another man had a dispute that became physical. During the dispute, Reid used a hammer to hit the man in his head and upper body. The man was assisted to the hospital, where he was admitted in a critical condition. A report was made to the police, and Reid was later pointed out and taken into custody.

He was formally charged on Wednesday, after witness statements were recorded implicating him.

His court date is being finalised.
