Man disappears in St Elizabeth after going to funeral
Leo-lenard Glover left home in Gutters, Retirement, in St James, three weeks ago, to attend a funeral in Prospect, St Elizabeth, and has not been seen or heard from since.
His family is desperately trying to unravel the mystery surrounding his disappearance.
"Him left here Saturday to go to the funeral. We get a call on Sunday morning, shortly after 10, to say dem cya find him," his mother, Ann Marie Grey, told CENTRAL STAR.
Reports from the Corporate Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force are that Glover was last seen after he and his friends went swimming in the Little Ochi Beach in St Elizabeth on July 7.
"Glover went swimming with friends and was reported missing, because no one could find the body. But there is no evidence to say that he drowned, because there has been no body, and no one has confirmed that this person went into the water, got into difficulties, and did not come back up," the release said
"Efforts have been made to try to find him, but there's still no concrete evidence to say that this person drowned. So a missing person notice has been put out, in addition to it being a possible suspected drowning," it added.
ransom calls
But Glover's mother said she doesn't know what to believe, especially since she said she has recieved calls from persons seeking a ransom for her missing son.
"Wi get wah call from dung deh last week. Somebody seh wi must carry $20,000 come because dem find the body, but wi nuh go no weh; and since den wi get two more calls, but when wi call the police, dem seh dem nuh hear nothing," she said
She said her 26-year-old son went to the funeral with a group of friends, but she has been receiving conflicting reports about what happened.
"If you go out as a team, then somebody must di deh can seh keep a close eye seh if yuh drunk or anything. But when it happen every body just gone a funeral same way, and a almost one month now," she said
Grey said she has also come to terms with the idea that he might not be alive, but just cannot accept how he might have died.
"If him leave out and nuh have him phone fi call yuh, him borrow somebody phone and call home. But this look funny," she said.
