When Marlene Green saw The STAR team in her community last Wednesday, she declared that the Lord had brought us to her because she has been suffering for so long and she needs to tell her story. She said that she has been struggling to raise her children for years, and after losing her spouse at sea some years ago, things got even harder for her.

"I have three pickney and dem father drown a sea. Dem fi go a school and some days mi can't find it. See it deh, the oldest one suppose to start college, but mi can't afford to send him," she said.

Green said she has been trying to get on the Farm Work programme to Canada, as well as other employment schemes that have been introduced in and around the Whitehouse area in Westmoreland where she lives, but she has not been successful in her attempts.

Green once sold conch soup by the sea in Whitehouse, but with the government imposing a ban on conch fishing, she has started selling chicken foot soup.

"I need a farm working ticket to do some farm work, a nuh everybody can do office work. Mi nuh know how fi scam, all I can do is tek mi hand and mek fashion and help myself," she said.

Green told The STAR that a ticket to Canada to work on the programme would be ideal for her, because it would give her enough time to save money to help send her child to college and help send her other children to school.

"A three green mango mi just eat wid likkle salt. Mi a tell yuh seh a God carry unu come yah today because wi a feel it," she said.

Green said that she has big dreams for herself and her children and would appreciate some help from the member of parliament for the area, Luther Buchanan.

"Mi would like the help, because anything nuh drop pan mi affi drop pan mi pickney dem," she said.
