Samixlee makes debut with ‘Do Over’
Recording artiste Samixlee is celebrating the release of her debut single, ' Do Over', which premiered on June 13.
" Do Over is about a real connection I had with someone that didn't turn into a relationship because of timing. We made great memories, and I wondered 'What if we tried again?' The song explores that idea of a second chance, taking things slower while both people are actually ready," the singer explained.
The accompanying music video was shot in Hellshire, St Catherine, which was carefully selected as a place that feels really close to home for the singer.
"I wanted the visuals to reflect the warmth, emotion, and longing in the song, and Randy [the video director] understood that right away. He really captured the feeling I had when writing Do Over and brought it to life in a way that felt honest and true to me," she highlighted.
As her first song, the release is one of sentimental value and sets the tone for the kind of artiste she wants to be: open, reflective, and connected to real emotion.
"I just hope Do Over connects with others who may feel the same way. I also hope it reaches new ears, finds its way onto playlists, and opens more doors for people to discover my music," she said.
Born in Miami but raised in Kingston, Samixlee, whose given name is Samantha Lee, was deeply influenced by the vibrant music culture around her. Growing up on stations such as Music 99 FM, which played mostly R&B, shaped her sound and love for the classic '90s vibe. Describing herself as a lover girl, her heartfelt writing covers topics such as love, relationships, passion and heartbreak. As a player of the guitar and piano, her sounds lean towards instrumentals led by these, creating intimate songs that make the listener feel.
"I'm planning to release more music this year while continuing to grow into my sound and stay true to my voice. A dream of mine is to collaborate with Babyface on songwriting - his ability to write timeless music really inspires me. I'd also love to work with [producer] Di Genius, whose creative beat-making process I admire," the singer revealed.
