Ja Gymnastics cite huge Carifta benefits
With Jamaica set to host the inaugural Carifta Gymnastics Championships from November 29 to December 1, the Jamaica Gymnastics Association (JGA) says there is much for the island to benefit from.
President of the JGA, Nicole Grant, in an interview with THE WEEKEND STAR, said the benefits range from exposure and experience to skill development. This she said would not only assist the 73-member national team, but gymnasts across the country.
"Competing at the Carifta Gymnastics Championships allows local gymnasts to gain valuable experience in a competitive environment, which can enhance their skills and confidence," Grant said.
"The event can serve as a platform for local gymnasts to learn from their peers and experienced competitors. They may also have opportunities for workshops or clinics with coaches and athletes from other regions. Overall, hosting the Carifta Gymnastics Championships can create a positive impact on the local gymnastics scene, fostering growth and development for athletes at all levels."
This historic staging of the event will see competitors from Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda, Aruba, St Vincent and Grenadines, Barbados, The Bahamas and the host country Jamaica.
This regional showdown is expected to heap lots of positives.
"The objectives for this Carifta is to use it as a tool for development as well as promoting regional unity," she said. "Jamaica's objectives are for further development and visibility of athletes and the sport locally."
To ensure that all this happens, proper planning and execution of the event is important and as such, Grant said this is top priority.
"We meticulously plan every area and follow up on persons to complete task," Grant said.
