RUSEA'S HIGH snapped Anchovy High's unbeaten record after a thrilling 5-1 victory in their Zone B clash in the ISSA/WATA daCosta Cup football competition at Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea, Hanover yesterday.

Anchovy's players and coaching staff were left in a sombre mood after watching their first defeat of the season.

Despite a half-hour delay because of a waterlogged field, Rusea's stuck to the task of making things difficult for Anchovy.

Roshawn Dillion opened the scoring for the winners as early as the eighth minute.

However, Anchovy were far from beaten and Verdane Clarke brought them level shortly after by jumping the highest to head into the goal from a free kick.

Rusea's High's Damar Sailman came roaring back to double the score in the 28th minute.

Anchovy would run out of steam, leaving the door open for Rusea's High's Rushane 'Messi' Burt to strike one home in the 31st minute. Maliek Headed joined the party in the 41st, while Kemarley Weekley finished off the scoring in the 89th minute.

Paul 'Tegat' Davis, coach of Rusea's High, told STAR Sports that, despite the win, the team didn't play how they wanted to.

"This game, we definitely needed to win. Yes, we got some goals but we didn't play the way we wanted to. We still gave up some plays in the middle and allowed the other team to play the way they wanted to. They came back and equalised and we had to get back into another gear to get the goals," Davis added.

"Nevertheless, I am happy with the three points. The field was wet and slippery and there was nothing we could do about that. Overall, we controlled the tempo of the game," Davis said.

Clevon Patterson, assistant coach of Anchovy said the waterlogged field played a part in the team's poor performance.

"Truth be told, conditions weren't favourable. That is what caused us to actually lose the game. The water stopped three goals for us. If it was a dry surface, it would be a different reflection of the game today. Nevertheless, we have to give credit to our boys," Patterson said.

The result pushes Anchovy High, on 12 points, down to second in the zone, on goal difference. Leaders Frome High also have 12 points, but a plus-three goal difference. Rusea's, on nine points, are third.
