Jamaica's 110 metres hurdler and Olympic Games gold medallist, Hansle Parchment, will be using the personal-best time he ran towards the end of last season as an inspiration to prepare for the upcoming track and field season.

According to Parchment, despite being late in his career, he also hopes to correct his starting issues, which has been one of his main problems, as he is usually slow out the starting blocks.

Parchment ran 12.93 seconds in the 110 metres hurdles at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, United States of America, in September to erase his old personal mark of 12.94 seconds, established in 2014.

"Running that time has really motivated me. It has given me a push going into the new season.

He stated that he will prepare methodically, as he anticipates a successful defence of his title at the Paris Olympic Games next year.

"It is a long season, and I will not be rushing my preparation, as I will be taking my time preparing myself as best as possible. I want to be at my best at the right time.

"My start has always been difficult, but I am not worried, as I look to improve and see what happens. With improvement here and good technique, I can get a good race together," he said.

The sprint hurdler was successful last season, winning silver in the men's 110 metres hurdles at the Budapest World Championships. His personal best in Eugene was the top time in the world in the event. He closed his season in style after winning the Diamond League title.

"It was a good season for me, although I did not get the gold medal at the World Championships. I ran a personal best in the event, something I have not done in years," he said.

The 33-year-old Parchment, when quizzed about breaking the 110 metres world record of 12.80 seconds, responded: "I am not going to stress too much on the world record. I want to focus on getting out, having fun and continue representing the country well, and hopefully, bring in more medals."
