Glenmuir drub Tacky 76-7 in ISSA rural netball
DESPITE playing their first competitive game in more than four weeks, defending rural and all island senior champions Glenmuir High blew away Tacky High 76-7 in their Group Four second-round match in the ISSA rural netball competition at GC Foster College yesterday.
The defending champions, led by goal shooter Tori Mendez and goal attack Fentonian Henry, were on top from early as their team raced to a big 21-1 lead after the first quarter.
For the remainder of the game the defending champions dominated their rivals as they led 40-3 at the half time break. They showed no mercy for the inexperienced Tacky team as they stepped up the tempo going up 58-5 after the third quarter before closing out their big win with 18 more goals to their opponents' two in the final quarter
Glenmuir's coach Ryan Reid was pleased with the win."It was a victory we had expected despite not playing a game since October. The girls went out and did what they had to do although a little fatigue crept in and we will have to work on this going forward," he said.
"These matches are like practice sessions and we are using them to help the girls to gel as it is a fairly new bunch of players," added Reid.
It was a double on the day for Glenmuir as their junior team got by Marymount High 35-10 in Group Two.
Also scoring a double at the same venue yesterday were former champions Denbigh High. Their juniors got by Brown's Town High 45-11 in Group Four with the senior team beating York Castle High 49-5.
The juniors gave a very good display and they looked a cinch to go all the way. Coach Samantha Mundle was happy with the energy of her team.
"I am extremely pleased with the performance of the team, especially the defensive unit. It is a very good team and we feel confident that we can win the title this year," said Mundle.
Yesterday also saw Holmwood Technical and May Day High scoring double wins .
At Manchester High school, Holmwood's juniors got by St Elizabeth Technical 32-24 with the senior team scoring a massive 79-6 win over Maggotty High.
At St Elizabeth Technical High May Day's juniors defeated Green Pond High 25-16 before their seniors closed out the double over Manning's School winning 44-11.
In the other game played yesterday Manchester High's juniors whipped Mt Alvernia High 41-5 at Manning's. Their senior team got a walk over as Montego Bay High failed to show.
