Parchment happy to give back
Tokyo Olympic Games 110 metres hurdles champion Hansle Parchment is proud to play a role in the CB Group UWI 5K Run/Walk and the Run With Passion Kids K, held on Sunday at The University of the West Indies.
The annual event started in 2012, and Parchment was a beneficiary of the project which provides funding for needy students at the university. He is pleased that the programme is continuing.
"It is a pleasure to support something like this, which is very good, and I am happy. I got a sports scholarship when I was a student, and it was able to cover my tuition, accommodation and other things, and I was able to complete my tertiary education," he said.
Parchment, who has also won three silver medals at the World Athletics Championships, was on hand on Sunday and stated that it feels excellent to give back.
According to Parchment, he also helps with the encouragement of the students at the university.
"Now and then, I speak to the athletes to motivate them, because I train on campus. I also give moral support to the students, sharing my journey.
"I am hoping, for the future, the event will get bigger and better so more students can benefit," he said.
