Burger King 5K offers huge incentives
Alfred 'Franno' Francis, managing director of Running Events, promises an enthralling Burger King 5K Road Race and Relay in Portmore, St Catherine, Sunday.
The event will begin at 6:30 a.m. and has attracted significant entries, with over $1 million up for grabs, along with medals and trophies.
"This will be the largest and most exciting event so far," Francis said.
The Burger King 5K will have a major increase in prize monies, with high school and community teams vying for a top prize of $400,000 in the BK Big Finish event.
At a press launch earlier this month, Nadia Kiffin Green, head of sales and marketing, Restaurants Associates Limited, franchisers for Burger King, announced that three new awards will be contested. These are the BK Big Finish, Lois Sherwood School Championships Award and best T-shirt design.
For the BK Big finish, a cash prize of $400,000 will be awarded to the team with the highest number of entrants that complete the 5K Run/Walk in 35 minutes.
The Lois Sherwood championships award is for high schools participating in the 5K for the team with a minimum of seven members, with the fastest five members scoring.
The group deemed the best-designed T-shirts will win the award.
There will also be other awards at the meet.
The top five high schools 4x1,500 metres relays, boys' and girls' teams will be rewarded. Also, the top three in the individual 5K walk and run men's and women's finishers will receive awards.
Sponsors of the event include Rainforest Caribbean, Soccer Xpress, Sun City, Arosa, Wata and Powerade.
