Arnett Women target fourth straight win
Arnett Gardens women's team head coach Denton Shedden says he his not surprised by the three consecutive victories by the team in the Jamaica Football Federation/Lascelles Employees and Partners Co-operative Credit Union Women's Premier League.
The 'Junglists' who returned to the league after a one-year absence in 2016, racked up wins against Real Mobay, SC Monarchs and Olympic Gardens. They will host Trelawny Women's in a top of the table clash in Zone B at the Anthony Spaulding Complex, today at 4 p.m.
Arnett heads into the final first round game on nine points ahead of Trelawny Women's (5).
Shedden said that it is important to maintain a winning run in order to boost team confidence ahead of the mid-season final on August 18.
GOODFIGHT
"I think we have a good chance if the team stays focused and we can win the league. We are taking it one step at a time and are looking forward to the game against second place Trelawny. I expect a good fight from them," he said.
"I am not surprised by the start, as we have good players. But we need to score more goals, as we should have at least 20 goals, instead of nine from three games. Sometimes we don't have enough training time, so we need to get sharper," Shedden shared.
Shedden also noted that the absence of many-time champions Barbican, Los Perfectos and GC Foster College due to various reasons has not diminished the league.
"I don't see the league been watered down because the talent from those clubs is spread across the league," he explained.
Coach of Trelawny Women's, Winston Alvaranga said he has a young team with an average age of 18, but they will be going into the Jungle with high hope.
"It is a great feeling if we go there to win because we have a pretty young team. These girls will be playing with pride as they are representing the parish,' Alvaranga said.
He also said the withdrawal of the three clubs is not good for the league because teams were closing in on Barbican.
"I believe that Barbican could be beaten as teams were breathing down their necks. We have some quality team in the competition," the coach concluded.
