St Catherine FA election race boils up

Michael Johnson, who is running for the post of second vice-president of the St Catherine Football Association on the slate of Harry 'Bungles' Daley, believes the parish association's leadership should view football management professionally, and not as birthright.

The organisation has been led by Peter Reid from 2005. Before that, Lincoln 'Happy' Sutherland reigned for 42 years.

Johnson says Daley, a man who has been actively involved in football, and who deserves a chance, is hoping to break the 'stranglehold' at the election on February 6.

"It seems like the leadership is an inherited birthright, and they are saying that we have no credibility, but they are in office for 10 years, and we want to ask them what have they done for football in St Catherine," said Johnson.

He reasoned that FIFA mandated that Jamaica Football Federation terms be limited to four years at parish and other affiliate levels.

Daley's slate includes Michael Boyd, first vice-president; Kevan Wisdom, general secretary; Radcliffe Myers, treasurer, and Patrick Dunkley, assistant secretary treasurer.

Johnson added that while the incumbent has focused on Daley's 'high profile case,' his professionalism, work in football, experience in football, and sports management will not be discounted.

He added that Daley has been a manager at a number of clubs from Portland to St Catherine and Kingston and St Andrew.

"Mr Daley is a senior member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force with over 40 years experience. He has a website dedicated to all the

matters of his case, he was freed and he is back in a senior position, he added, while noting that his team's credibility is intact," said Johnson.
