Apology not enough!

Top Jamaica cyclist Marloe Rodman is in the process of taking legal action against the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), according to Jamaica Cycling Federation (JCF) president, Kirk Finnikin.

This after the GCF president, Horace Burrowes, made comments on his Facebook page, which implicated the 2015 Caribbean cycling champion as a drug user after he competed in the Tour of Guyana last November.

But Rodman, who was recently cleared on any wrongdoing, is said to be very upset over the allegations, and even though he has been cleared, Finnikin, says the riding star believes the damage done to his reputation warrants more than just an apology.

TARNISHED REPUTATION

"We were already upset because not only have they tarnished the athlete, but they are sullying the reputation of the country. I had a long conversation with the Guyana president and I told him it needed something more than that (apology). Because sometimes you have to let them know what their actions are causing.

"He agreed that the source (of his information) was not reliable, and his intention was not to cause the negatives that has impacted the athlete and he agreed to write the apology.

"But Marloe is hurt, he is upset and he feels that legal action is needed. He appreciates that an apology has been made, but he is still in a position where he believes an apology is not enough and you can't blame him. He has been getting calls from in the country, the region, and internationally about the incident.

"Now opportunities such as sponsorship, invitational opportunities are now affected, and he believes some amount of redress should occur at this time because it is only on one side that the negative impact has been felt.

The administrator said that the association will be standing beside Rodman and that an attorney has already been engaged.

He also re-emphasised Rodman's innocence, but admitted that the incident has strained relations between the Guyanese and Jamaican cycling

federations.
