Love aims to end junior career with a bang
Having won the J$250,000 Howard Aris Scholarship at the Scotiabank-Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) Golden Cleats Awards ceremony last Saturday, Excelsior High's track team captain Shanice Love
is eying even greater achievements in this her final year as a junior.
The award is presented to the Jamaican student-athlete with the top grade point average, which Love who is a 12th grader at Excelsior earned after her Junior Pan Am Games bronze medal win in girls discus.
"I have one year left as a World Junior so in order for me to get a medal I have to throw 57 or 58 metres. I believe I am capable. I am training hard and keeping focus," she told STAR Sports.
Love is also hoping for the big times at next year's Boys and Girls' Championships.
"I want to use my last year to make my mark at Champs, and I will be going for class one record junior discus record," she said.
Coach Michael Vassell said that Love had proven to be one of the best discus throwers in the island and Caribbean.
"I think she has it in her to lead her team and leave juniors with a big mark," he said.
