Champs St Catherine CC make Jordan Foote donation
Danza Hyatt, captain of St Catherine CC, says their decision to make a donation to young footballer, Jordan Foote, was borne out of a desire to see the Holy Trinity High student recover from his bone cancer condition.
St Catherine CC, winners of the 2015 Jamaica Cricket Association 50-overs Championship on Monday, is set to make a donation through a percentage of their first prize money of $500,000.
"The team, and the club, as a whole, on hearing of his condition made a decision that if we won, we would donate a percentage to young Foote," said Hyatt.
"He may be a footballer, but he is also a sports person, and all of us sportsmen and sportswomen, we have a lot of similarities.
"We get up each day, put in the work, and, aim to be the best that we do."
"It is therefore a pleasure and privilege, to play our part in his recovery."
Hyatt, a West Indies representative, also spoke to him personally being moved by the situation, as two years ago he was hit in the face by a ball, and had to be hospitalised.
"I personally can relate to what he is going through as well," Hyatt pointed out.
"I was hit in the face, and, suffered a fractured nose and facial swelling, and through the support of family, friends and well-wishers, like Chris Gayle and Andre Russell, I recuperated well."
Foote, who has been outstanding for Holy Trinity in recent years, was recently diagnosed with the bone cancer, and is presently waiting to do an operation.
It is estimated that the surgery will cost just under $1 million, and so far he has received support from well-wishers.
This includes the Premier League Clubs Players Association (PLCA), which has donated $400,0000.
