The St Catherine Circuit Court has sentenced a man who fatally chopped another to imprisonment for four years and one month.

Lamar Hall, 29, had pleaded guilty to the murder of Paul Chambers, otherwise called 'Rasta', from Browns Town district, St Catherine.

Before Justice Bertram Morrison ruled today, attorney Deanna Mitchell told the court that Hall pleaded guilty to the offence, had spent five and a half years in custody and had a mental problem.

Justice Morrison said that 15 years was being considered, however, Hall would benefit from his guilty plea and the time spent in custody. This meant he would be sentenced to 49 months' imprisonment.

The court was told that on April 1, 2019, Hall attacked Chambers with a machete and chopped him 23 times.

He was taken to the Linstead Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
