Brother murdered the day sister skipped prayers

Leaning on a wall at 7th Street, Greenwich Town yard for support, Racquel Facey wondered aloud whether prayer session would have kept the angel of death away from her brother, Steve Facey.

The 45-year-old man was murdered in the St Andrew community yesterday. His sister told THE STAR that she normally get out out bed for devotion at 4 a.m., but yesterday was different.

"I would pray for my entire family but because I have an exam at school tomorrow (today) I didn't pray. I was just up studying. I always cover my brothers under the blood of Jesus. I am really sorry, and I should always put God first above everything, and I wonder if the outcome would have been different if I had just taken the time to pray," Racquel said.

"It just wasn't worth it not to pray, but I am trying not to beat up on myself too much because I always pray for him," she said.

The St Andrew South police reported that about 8:15 a.m. residents heard explosions and alerted the security forces. Upon the lawmen's arrival, Facey, 45, was seen laying in a pool of blood. The injured man was transported to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Racquel described Steve as an industrious and kind man. He was a father of four, and his loved ones said that to the best of their knowledge, he was not involved in any form of criminal activities.

"When you say work, you talk about Steve. He does construction work for company and when it slow down him will find a one or two-day work. He was very loving and kind. He loved his entire family. On Fridays, any one could go to him and get a money. He was very concerned about his family and just about any one he loves. The man love him children and he would leave nothing for their mother to do," Racquel said.

The distraught sister said members of the family made it their duty to check on each other whenever gunshots are fired in the community. Yesterday, having heard explosions in Greenwich Town, Racquel said she reached out to other family members who assured her that they were OK. However, calls to Steve's phone went unanswered and so she decided to check on him. That was when she realised he was hit.

"When I went there I saw my brother laying on the ground, I just had to bawl out for Jesus," she said.
