"Thank you Jesus, yuh set me free. Who the son of God set free is free indeed," Ann Marie Mullings cried as she clung tightly to a friend for support on the grounds of the Constant Spring Police Station yesterday.

Mullings, 38, was cleared by police as a suspect in the barbaric beating of 17-year-old Kaylan Dowdie, who is presently on life support at the University Hospital of the West Indies. She was beaten at a party in Barbican on November 7.

Mullings showed THE STAR documents which showed that she had given birth at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital (VJH) on November 5 and was discharged a day later. She stated that on the day of the party, she visited her baby at the VJH nursery. When she returned home, she was ill.

"Because mi did inna the rain, mi get ague and mi babyfather give mi some fish tea, rub mi up with alcohol and mi go mi bed. Mi nuh come outa mi house or anything," she said.

Was shocked

Mullings said she was told about the fight the following morning, and was shocked when someone sent her a collage which included her photograph and those of five other women with a caption stating that they were wanted by the police in relation to the attack.

"Mi never see dat little girl inna mi life and even her friend that was with her at the party talk at the police station that she don't know mi. A (last) Wednesday mi see di picture and the next morning mi go Grants Pen Police Station and the police just write down mi name an tell mi to go home because mi nuh have anything to do with it," she said. Mullings returned last Friday and said the inspector told her the same thing.

But Mullings said when she visited her baby last Saturday, two hospital staff pointed her out, and police personnel had to call their colleagues to verify her story.

Mullings said she fears for her life as she is receiving threats on social media despite posting a video proclaiming her innocence.

"Everywhere mi go people a point mi out. Is two pickney mi have so why mi woulda wa duh somebody pickney suh? Mi never deh deh at the party," she said.

Mullings said despite the false accusations, she wishes Kaylan a speedy recovery and said she will continue to pray for strength for her family.

Head of the St Andrew North Police Division, Superintendent Aaron Fletcher, told THE STAR that Mullings has nothing to do with the brutal attack.

"The police have an interest in Tiffany Clarke, Shameika McLeod, Tashika Aldridge, Chrisann Lewis, Timone, otherwise called 'Rusty' and 'Yulande'. McLeod and Aldridge are already in police custody. We are appealing to the three persons at large to turn themselves in to the police," he said.
