A CRUEL BLOW - Sleepless nights for man videotaped with male prostitutes, mom claims

August 09, 2019

Rafique 'Nico' Morris, the man who was videotaped wearing a condom while handcuffed, as a cross-dressing prostitute demanded payment from him for alleged services offered, has spent his nights crying since the incident.

This, according to his mother, Dawn Harris, who is adamant that her son was 'set-up' by rogue cops.

"Every now and again you see him burst out into tears. I don't know what to tell him and I can't tell him that everything will be all right. Last night (Wednesday) when I got in, he was crying. There are people who are going to say things, even some of his own friends, and I can't stop people from saying what they are saying," she said.

Harris said the ordeal started last Wednesday in Papine. Morris was operating a 'robot' taxi when he was stopped by policemen with whom he is familiar.

"Him say the police draw down on him and say dem want $50,000 or dem a go lock him up, so he said they should lock him up," she said.

She said that Morris was placed in the back of a police vehicle.

"He said they drove him into a parking lot and one of the police got on his phone and was talking to somebody and when him look him see the two 'fish' dem a walk a come," Harris said.

By this time, Harris said her son had began to get 'loud' and was threatened by one of the cops that if he did not calm down, he would be shot.

Harris said that her son tried to resist when the condom was being put on him, but "one of the police had the gun pointed in his back and told him that he should stay still."

soliciting sex

She accused the lawmen of editing the video and even coercing the prostitutes to make it seem as if her son was soliciting sex from them.

"The video was edited and that is why we couldn't see the part where Nico was making a commotion. Everything was staged and this is one of the reasons why you hear one of the guys in the video asking the police what Nico did again. Shortly after the guys went about their business and Nico was placed back in the police van," she said.

She said the police then told Morris that they would release the video if he did not pay the $50,000.

"They thought he would have come in with the money and because he didn't, they released the video," she said.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) on Mondy indicated that the Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) had launched a probe into the matter.

In a statement, the IPROB stated that the organisation takes seriously all allegations of improper conduct by the JCF and assured the public there would be a thorough and objective investigation.

"I know that this battle is not mine but for the Lord, therefore I am working with my faith and the prayers of my loved ones ... I leave everything to the God that I serve," said Harris.
