Once you reach Treasure Beach in St Elizabeth, the talk of the town is the Jack Sprat Restaurant.

Cassandra Powell-Clarke, who has been manager for roughly five years, said it is the go-to place for many Jamaicans, especially on the major holidays such as Independence Day and Christmas Day.

Calling themselves the ‘baby sister’ of nearby Jake’s Restaurant, she said her staff takes pleasure in satisfying the palates of people from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Powell-Clarke said people from Germany has come time and time again to get their taste of their famous pizza, which many people flock to when they visit.

“We are famous for pizzas, its thin crust, so it is crispy and different. We serve vegetable pizzas which have all-fresh ingredients. We have a jerked chicken pizza, among others, but we have lobster and shrimp pizzas which people love,” she said. “People from Italy and New York, when they come here, (they) said it is really good. You have people that keep coming back, because I know a young lady who used to be here a lot. She got pregnant and came here for the baby shower and for the child’s first birthday. She did the same when she was pregnant a second time. Whenever she comes to Jamaica she always comes here.”

Food is not the only thing that draws people from near and far; the sea is one of the finest ways to relax in this hot climate according to Anna Schultz, who travelled from the US to get her yearly dose of what Jack Sprat has to offer.

Schultz has been travelling to Jamaica for the past five years and every time she visits the island, she has to make a stop at her favourite chill spot.

Not a fan of the hot temperature, she takes pleasure in relaxing by the shore, taking in some cool sea breeze.

To travel alone would be selfish, according to Schultz, who said every time she visits, she takes a whole team with her.

“My mom introduced me to this place and I don’t need to go anywhere else because we love it here. We have a team of 12 to 15 people that we always bring to enjoy themselves,” she said.

Sandra Grey-Emanuel has decided that she cannot get enough of Jack Sprat as she has been there more times than she can count.

She said that it has been her go-to place for relaxation and as a St Elizabeth native, she does not know a better relaxation spot.

“I love the ambience and the food. We have been to other places but we keep coming back to here. I would recommend here to anybody. The pizza is good. It caters for every taste and I like that,” she said
