Dancehall artiste Fresh King is often called ‘Lazarus’ by his peers.

After escaping death at least four times in the past five years, the entertainer said he often wonders if he will be changing tune soon or even converting to Christianity.

“Sometimes I wonder if I am going to be a gospel artiste or preacher ... . I was baptised in 2017, so I have that within me same way. I know that God has ordained a purpose for me, and that is the reason he has spared my life more than once,” Fresh King said.

Fresh King is currently recuperating at home after sustaining multiple injuries in a motor vehicle accident which claimed the life of his babymother, Junique Chung, late last month.

The fatal accident came just five months after he had escaped major injuries in another crash as he was driving towards his home in Manchester.

“The day before mi daughter born (more than a year ago), mi get stab up again and was hospitalised. Then in December, I had just completed a video shoot and was heading home from Kingston. When me reach Mandeville, the tyre blow out, and the car ride a bank and start roll. Mi just feel like a people a try offa mi life still, but it nah work,” he said.

Despite all the setbacks, it was a horrific encounter in 2014 that left him in a state of paranoia as it relates to friendships and loyalty.

He told CENTRAL STAR that at the age of 17, he was lured into a death trap by one of his friends.

“One of my friends was trying to sacrifice me because they were studying cult. We were going to school together, and he and a few other boys said I should forward and make we go explore the place. Mi never go in a cave yet so me did excited to go, too,” he said. “When we reach at a specific point, him say, ‘ yow a you death you run up inna enuh’, but mi a take it for joke until me see him cut him finger and drink the blood, and when him do that, him voice change, and him stab me inna me neck, and that’s when I realise say it serious.”

As he lay bleeding, Fresh King pretended as if he was dead even as his friend and the other boys set him ablaze.

“Them stab me all over inna me head, dem try drown me, and then them come out the cave and return with a tyre and throw it on me with kerosene oil and light me and put a bottle torch beside me. That experience make mi know say mi could endure pain because I had to lie and pretend like I was dead even when the fire a burn me. They stood there for a few seconds and a watch the hair burn off mi head and the skin off my shoulder a burn, then they left,” he said.

Fresh King, whose given name is Rohan Clearly, stated that barely clinging to life, he remained in the cave in New Hall district, Manchester, for three days until he was rescued by the police.

He told CENTRAL STAR that one of the boys had confessed to the police after his family had reported him missing.

“The bottle torch go out, and mi slide and lick mi ribs and run out a breath. I broke three of my toes. The cave turn midnight; I couldn’t even see my hand at my face. I can’t tell you that I remember everything that happen, but I remember a just bare bat me a hear. Me beg God to save mi life and promise him say I would serve him. When the police dem find me, all maggots a come out a mi skin, and dem say mi stiff, a just mi mouth did a move,” he said.

He re emphasised that he will keep his promise to the Almighty.

“I know he expects me to keep my word because he spared my life. Is only God alone why I am alive today,” he said.
