Despite being named 'The Vineyard Twins', Andrew and Andre Williams are not from that St Andrew community.

The 34-year-old twins actually got their moniker from their nicknames, Kevin (Andrew) and Marvin (Andre).

"(Reggae artiste) Warrior King gave us that name. He took 'vins' from Marvin and Kevin and seh uno a the Vineyard Twins," Andrew said.

They're hoping to be the first set of singjay twins to really 'buss' as full-fledged recording artistes.

But for now they have to be content with working on widening and improving Hagley Park Road, part of the Major Infrastructural Development Project.

Cultural artistes

"We have a lot of things we want to share with the youth. And, as this work finish, we wanna take on the music thing in a real and proper way," Andre said.

Describing themselves as cultural artistes, they want to bring a dancehall twist to cultural music, and said they're influenced by Vybz Kartel and Luciano.

The twins left Jamaica at age 13 for London, England, but both were deported 10 years ago after run-ins with the law.

"Life was hard cause wi nuh used to what we have to get used to now. We came here to no one. Wi just deh here, and wi know people weh know wi family, and wi just go round dem till dem pack wi out," Andre said

However, with music, and a total of nine children between them, they told THE STAR that have changed their lives.

"We nuh left each other. But mi miss mi kids dem. A dem uplift mi. More time mi think fi do wrong, and a dem uplift mi fi go right," Andrew said.

"Mi haffi guh hard fi mi two beautiful daughters, cause dem really need things. Anything dem ask for, dat dem haffi get, dem a daddy's girls," added Andre.

But until their musical dreams are realised, Andrew said they will continue to learn as much as they can on the roadwork project.

"Mi nah lie still, working here mek mi learn a trade, whole heap a trade. Mi come here as a labourer, now mi can do steel work, carpenter, all kind of things. Mi wah learn so mi put mi head to it. Yuh must deh here 6:30 and wi deh here 6:30 every day," he said proudly.
