‘Empress’ Davianah returns ‘refreshed and refined’
On her Instagram page, Davianah brands herself 'Da Bad One', however, last Thursday night, the entertainer, who makes no apologies for her moniker, was far removed from anything remotely bad.
In fact, Davianah, the daughter of Tony Rebel, was channelling empress energy and even told THE STAR that she was "refreshed" and staying away from negative headlines.
Elegantly attired in angelic white, she complemented her outfit with a red, green and gold scarf and, on her head was a Rasta tam.
"We are here celebrating the great Bunny Wailer ... mi deh hereso on the strength of Asadenaki [son of Bunny Wailer] so mi haffi represent. Remember ... the empress is within me. So, the empress in mi come out," a smiling Davianah told THE STAR.
She was one of the artistes on Rootsman Skankin, the free concert held at Greenvale Avenue in St Andrew to celebrate what would have been the 78th birthday of iconic reggae singer Neville 'Bunny Wailer' Livingston. Her performance of Bunny Wailer's roots rocking love song, Ballroom Floor, was one of the highlights of the evening.
Davianah, who was last seen performing at Rebel Salute in St Ann in January, has been under the radar, and Rootsman Skankin was her first show since Rebel Salute, which was her first show "since [she] performed in St Kitts in June 2024."
Choosing her words carefully, Davianah said, "There was a family incident, and as a family we took a step back and got some things together. So that's what happened. And then for Rebel Salute in January we came out strong. And I'm here tonight to continue ... to just wet up mi foot dem. A lot of people are asking ... they are in my DM, they are seeing me like how you are seeing me, confronting me face-to-face asking 'Where have you been?' Well, I'm here."
In the past, Davianah has been the recipient of some not-so-favourable headlines, but she is smoothly blazing a new path, while continuing to focus on her musical journey.
"I don't want the negative headlines, so mi did haffi just give everything a break. Mi tek mi time and mi come back refreshed and refined. I dropped a project last year October, called F Season, but I was not [in the island]. I'm here now to shoot some videos for that ... with N'Hance and a Jahshii because I have collaborations with them. And there's a song with Bugle. I'm putting in the work."
Her newest track, Phase One, which is produced by Bvrbon Music on Davianah Music label, will be released this week.
