Outstanding Edwin Allen High sprinter, Kevona Davis is not bothered after suffering a rare defeat at the Atlanta Georgia Relays at Manchester High School in Atlanta yesterday.

Davis had to settle for second place in the 200m in a time of 23.79 seconds, losing to the United States' Tamari Davis, who won in 23.01 seconds.

The clash was billed as the highlight of the meet, with the 15 years-old American coming off a season and personal best of 22.44 seconds, done at the Florida State Championships recently, where she defeated another Jamaican star, Brianna Williams in the half-lap event.

On the other hand, Kevona was coming into the meet with a personal best of 22.77 seconds, done in winning the Class Two event at Champs. However, it was the American, who stole the spotlight, after catching Davis coming off the curve.

The American had earlier captured the 100 metres in 11.38 seconds in a negative wind of 1.2 metres per second, beating Edwin Allen's Tina Clayton into second place in 11.54 seconds.

Davis along with her coach, Michael Dyke were still upbeat after the race and stated that there was no need for any panic.

"I think Kevona was a bit unfit as since the Penn Relays she has not been able to do much training due to the bad weather. She actually led but you could see the fatigue as she came off the curve as was exhausted in the end and there is no need to panic," said Dyke who assured that she was not injured after she was taken to the medical room after the race.

"This is just a lost; you win some and you lose some and today (yesterday) was one of those days. I came to the meet a bit rusty because it was my first race since Penn Relays and this was just a part of the training process and there is no need to be worry," said Davis herself.

The two-day meet which came to an end yesterday, saw several Jamaican High school athletes scoring victories.

Calabar had a trio of individual wins led by the outstanding Christopher Taylor, fresh off his big win in the 200 metres at the Jamaica Invitational last week. Taylor captured the 17-18 Age Group 200 metres comfortably in 20.72 seconds. Team-mate Tyreke Wilson captured the 100 metres Showcase Invitational in 10.52 seconds, while Dejour Russell easily took the 110 metres hurdles in 13.75 seconds.

Edwin Allen, St. Jago and Wolmer's Girl also had individual winners at the meet.

Brianna Lyston of St. Jago captured the 13-14 Age Group 200 metres in 24.45 seconds, ahead of Wolmer's Nickayla Gardener second in 25.76 seconds. Valissa Brown of Wolmer's, who had earlier won the long jump, added another title by taking the 15-16 100 metres hurdles in 14.93 seconds, while Edwin Allen High Salieci Myles did so in the 13-14 Age Group, winning in 14.62 seconds.
