A Jamaican man described as a violent, high-threat criminal is now held at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in Cuba according to the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

He has been listed on the DHS website as Eric Gresford Miller, an illegal alien from Jamaica, who has been convicted of aggravated assault with a firearm.

Miller is among the 30 people from 12 countries who are currently being housed in the detention centre.

No further details surrounding Miller's conviction was given.

Today the Department released the names of some of the illegal migrants detained at the facility.

"We're arresting criminal illegal aliens and getting them off America's streets. Guantanamo Bay is holding the worst of the worst including child predators, rapists and murderers," said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

"Whether it is CECOT, Alligator Alcatraz, Guantanamo Bay or another detention facility, these dangerous criminals will not be allowed to terrorize US citizens. President Trump and Secretary Noem are using every tool available to get criminal illegal aliens off our streets and out of our country. Our message is clear: Criminals are not welcome in the United States,"McLaughlin added.

The STAR has reached out to the Jamaican Embassy in Washington DC to find out if they are aware of Miller being housed at Guantanamo Bay but has not heard any response up to press time.
