Approximately 700 cases of liquor stolen from the Red Stripe brewery on Sunday were recovered by the St Andrew South police yesterday.

According to police, thieves had made off with about $8 million worth of liquor during the robbery at the company's Spanish Town Road headquarters. The robbery occurred between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., when four men entered the premises, gained access to the warehouse, tied up a security guard who was on duty and stole 1,440 cases of liquor.

Head of the St Andrew South Police Division Senior Superintendent Kirk Ricketts told THE STAR that cops recovered "just about 700 crates of Red Stripe Beer and Dragon Stout from two separate locations in the Corporate Area".

"One hundred crates were recovered on Ebenezer Avenue in New Haven and 600 cases on Bond Street in the Kingston West police area," he said.

Ricketts said that one man from the New Haven community was taken into police custody while other persons are being questioned in relation to the second recovery on Bond Street. On Tuesday, the police also seized a truck that they believe was one of two that was used to carry out the robbery.

"There is, however, a person of interest whose name is Christopher Rose that we are asking to have a discussion with us. We believe he might have been the driver for the vehicle that we have since seized," Ricketts said. The

Ricketts said that he is imploring members of the public to buy products from legitimate sellers because they may end up purchasing property that was gained illegally.

"Do not put yourself in legal jeopardy to be arrested by the police for purchasing stolen property," he said.
