Portland man fearful after cop’s threats
A Portland man who said he was the person threatened by a policeman in a video that has been circulating on social media says he is now living in fear.
The man said that since his encounter with the lawman nearly a week ago, he has hardly ventured outdoors. He said he had stopped to purchase soup in Long Road when he was accosted.
"Mi nuh feel safe in no form right now. From it happen mi nuh come outside. Mi want to clear the air that I am not a gunman and I am not involved in any wrongdoings so I want to make that clear," the man said. "Of course mi worried about this because him a police and him have the law inna him hand, so him can see mi at any time and do anything. Even if mi tell him to keep him distance from I, him can make him fren dem target mi."
In the video, the man was seen standing at what appeared to be a cookshop when he was approached by the policeman who pointed his hands to his face while uttering a string of expletives.
"Whe yuh know bout mi bwoy? Tell yuh fren dem say anytime mi hold unno wid a gun unno blo***caat a dead. Yuh hear whe mi say, mi say any day, mi will buss yuh p*&*y," the cop said while his colleague called him away. The man said that this was the first time he and the police officer had exchanged words.
"A little ting did happen inna di village where a phone had gone missing and dem did a call up mi fren dem name on it. Mi see him girlfriend daughter and told her to tell her mother to leave certain things alone because she was an informer. Dat a di only ting mi say. Him girlfriend call police on mi fren dem. The daughter deliver the message and one day the mother see mi and a call mi and mi tell her mi nuh inna no talking with her," he said. "She start cuss mi and her father take up cutlass after mi and dem summen deh and after that a just dis happen."
Efforts to contact the head of the Portland Police Division for a comment proved futile.
