My father caa be alive - Son convinced missing dad perished in flood waters
There is still no sign of 68-year-old Gilbert Thompson of Plantain Walk, Dallas Castle, who was last seen on August 24 after he decided to travel alone on foot, during the heavy rains brought by then Tropical Storm Laura.
Brenton Thompson, one of his sons, is still searching and said it "is very uncomfortable right now for the family".
"The thing is, nobody nuh know which part him deh. Nobody nuh know if him dead or alive for sure. Family abroad like his sisters and brothers can't get to come down during this time and they would want to be here right now. We are having communication with them," he said. "Every now and then they call me to find out what is taking place and stuff like that."
It's very difficult
Despite his frantic search, Brenton believes his father is no longer alive.
"To my knowledge right now, my father caa be alive if he was washed away ... trust me. It's very difficult," he said. "The only way I will find back my father alive right now, is only if somebody kidnap him and have him somewhere. And that unlikely because nobody nuh come forward and demand no money or anything."
He has also been receiving calls from residents in Plantain Walk, who say they have noticed a bad stench in the community.
"We searched there today (yesterday) and left after 4 p.m., but we don't find anything. I plan to go back there early a morning when the time much cooler," he said.
The family is especially disheartened, as last week they held a memorial for their matriarch.
"His (Thompson's) wife passed away last year. That is my stepmother and now this, one week after her memorial ... everything is still fresh. It's just rough," he said. "Nobody wants to be in this situation. Yuh caa sleep and yuh caa eat. When yah sleep, yah jump out a yuh sleep ... yuh just uncomfortable."
