Several years ago, Sharon Hutchinson had a terrifying experience when the bus in which she was travelling was shot at as she made her way home from a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) conference in Kingston.

A few years later, another bus in which she was a passenger was stoned in Mineral Heights, Clarendon as it journeyed from a party meeting in Manchester.

As frightening as these encounters were, this did not deter the Spanish Town resident from following the shower party to its rallies.

"Me start prepare my Sunday dinner from last night and 5 o'clock this morning mi finish it cuz this couldn't mis mi. Mi love mi party bad, and all when things get hard, mi nah leave it," Hutchinson said

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, leader of the JLP, yesterday said that he does not take the commitment of people like Hutchinson for granted.

"Some a yuh never eat any breakfast. You took the long ride, rain or shine, good times or bedtimes, you have been faithful to the party. You are the heart and soul of the party," Holness said as he thanked party supporters yesterday.

It was an acknowledgment that touched the bell-ringing Hutchinson, a rockstone labourite.

"Everything inna mi house green. If mi all see mi daughter buy anything of another colour, mi tell her get rid of it. A years mi a do this, from when mi use to have to climb pon ladder go inna di dumper truck," she said between laughter.

Yesterday, she and thousands of labourites who turned up at the arena were told to return to the communities and spread the message of the JLP.

"We know that there is more to be done, lots more and that's why we have begun working to get ready for a second term. Everything is not done, everybody is not satisfied but we are well on the way," the party's chairman Robert Montague said.

Hutchinson is convinced that the JLP has the right set of plans and the right hands working to build Jamaica.

"A lot of people will look at things and say it nah move, but if we should be truthful. We will see how much this Government have done in the little time they have been here. Even if we don't benefit much our children will reap the rewards of prosperity," she added.
