Weh Dem Up To: Devin Di Dakkta ready to pick up where he left off
The year 2017 was a golden one for the 2015 Magnum King of Dancehall, Devin Di Dakkta. Not only did the artiste earn his first Grammy nomination that year but he also hit the Billboard charts and made several leaps in the international market.
The artiste then began 2018 on a high, but decided to take a strategic break from music. As a result, the past few months have been relatively quiet for the entertainer. Now, having got his personal issues sorted out, the âRun Mi Downâ singer is ready to pick up right where he left off.
âI have my book where I write down goals and even though my career was going great, I was going through the book and I realise that nine of my personal goals were achieved. I think I was too busy in the publicâs eyes, the Grammy, the Billboards etc,â he told THE WEEKEND STAR.
âBut when I thought about the business aspect of things, and the foundation, and how I want my career to be, I had to take a step back and sort things out. Now, Iâm ready to come back and I will be going harder than ever,â he added.
The artiste was today scheduled to release his first song in months,ÌęTurn Back.ÌęHe said it will be one to uplift the nation.
Meanwhile, Devin Di Dakkta, pointing to the âspiritual vibeâ that has taken over the dancehall space, says he believes his song has the potential to positively impact the lives of people, particularly those who are battling depression.Ìę The artiste said the track was inspired by some words of advice his mother gave him when he was going through a rough patch in his life.
"You know how mothers can sense things. One day she say to me, outta the blues, âGod never carry yuh so far fi yuh turn back, so just nuh give up because everything soon goodâ,â he said.
âI had the song recorded and just put down. I was going through my laptop recently and me buck up on it. When I listened it back I realise that there are a lot of people going through some stuff that need to hear it. The topic of depression, especially, rested on me because a lot of people see other people a smile and take it for granted and say âyea man him alrightâ but they don't take the timeout to look beneath that smile and say âyow supmn wrong wid himâ.
Devin Di Dakkta has been promoting the song on his Instagram page and says the teaser is already making an impact.
âPeople really love it. Everybody go through dem likkle phase at some point in life. Everybody go through dat phase weh dem feel like dem wah give up and this song will motivate you and let you know like my mother did, that âGod nuh carry yuh this far fi yuh turn back because the strongest man dem get the hardest fight.â
