Major Lazer a hit at Mas Camp
Traffic congestion on all roads leading to Mas Camp from as early at 10 p.m. hinted that the Major Lazer concert hosted last Friday would have pulled another record-breaking crowd.
EDM is increasingly becoming a popular genre in Jamaica and, based on the thousands of patrons who packed themselves into Mas Camp, perhaps the organisers will now look to either extend the venue or secure another location.
At 11 p.m., Third Dimension sound system was operating in full gear and had patrons sweating profusely as they mostly jumped to the songs. In a very lengthy set, comprised of EDM and pop songs, the DJ also managed to get strong responses for OMI's Cheerleader and Vybz Kartel's Business.
The venue carried several bars and a food station endorsed by Ribbiz; however the liquor was not inclusive. As such, several patrons stayed away from the bar and, even as the event concluded, they didn't seem intoxicated, as is now customary with drink-inclusive EDM events in Jamaica.
Some patrons were also reluctant to travel to the bar since the crowd was already so thick and almost impossible to penetrate fluidly.
Chromatic sound system started their juggling at midnight. DJ JR was very much in his element and had patrons obeying his command as he introduced some hardcore dancehall songs from Vybz Kartel. The audience was very responsive.
Internationally renowned EDM DJ Martin Garrix received a warm welcome from the staunch EDM supporters. Accompanied by flashy lights and moving images from the uniquely designed stage, the DJ brought the entertainment to another level as patrons jumped and cheered continuously to his catalogue of hits, including Animals, Don't Look Down, among others.
At 1 a.m., there were even more screams as Diplo and Walshy Fire appeared on stage. Major Lazer delivered a strong package of entertainment, using both music and onstage antics to capture the audience's attention. When patrons thought there was nothing left to do, they introduced Chronixx and Tarrus Riley, who performed together. Sean Paul, Chi Ching Ching, among other dancehall acts, also made appearances.
