New Jamaica Scorpions wicketkeeper, Aldaine Thomas, believes he has what it takes to fill the boots of, Carlton Baugh Jr, who was overlooked by the national selectors for the WICB-NAGICO Super 50 Tournament.

A veteran of 41 one-day internationals for the West Indies, Baugh Jr, 33, was not invited to the national trials after a below-par start to this season's WICB First-Class Tournament.

CALLEDUP

In his absence, 21-year-old Thomas, a former national Twenty20 player, was called up.

"Over the years, he (Baugh Jr) has served Jamaica well, so it should be a big shoe to fill," said Thomas.

"I think I am up to the task. I did well for St Mary in the recent local 50-overs tournament and, after making 45 in the trials, and scoring 76 in the practice match, which followed, I think I am coming into some form."

Thomas, as an 18-year-old in 2012, at the now defunct Caribbean Twenty20 Tournament, batted three times in seven matches.

He, however, failed to make an impression with two, not out, being his best score.

"It (Super50) is another opportunity to prove myself as, while I did okay with glove a few years ago, I should have done better with the bat.

"I, therefore, want to go to Trinidad, perform, and, hopefully, hold down a spot in the team throughout the tournament."

Thomas is the only specialist wicketkeeper in the Scorpions' 14-man squad.

SPECIALIST BATSMAN

Former Leeward Islands wicketkeeper, Antiguan Devon Thomas, has been selected as a specialist batsman.

Jamaica will vie alongside joint hosts Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, Barbados Pride and ICC Americas for one of two available Group A semi-final spots.
