Wolmer's lift Walker Cup
Penalty shoot-out, no problem. Wolmer's Boys are the penalty kings of this year's ISSA-FLOW Walker Cup. Yesterday, they defeated defending champions St George's College 5-4 in a shoot-out at the Stadium East playing field to lift the trophy for the third time in four years. The teams had played to a 0-0 scoreline after full time, and 1-1 after extratime.
The players from the Heroes Circle-based school displayed nerves of steel throughout this year's Walker Cup. They battled through the three rounds of the knock-out competition, winning on penalties on each occasion after 0-0 scorelines. They first beat Hydel High in the quarter-final round then ousted Jamaica College in the semi-finals.
In yesterday's final, both teams created their fair share of chances as they battled for possession, but regulation time ended scoreless.

Wolmer's went ahead four minutes into extra-time. Alphanso Gooden
profited from a mix-up in the St George's defence to head home in the 94th minute. Dominic James drew St George's level from the penalty spot in the 100th minute.
James' equaliser came after Jevoun McKellar was fouled in the penalty box.
Goalkeeper Shamar Jamieson was the hero for Wolmer's. Jamieson who said he has been working hard at stopping penalties, saved two in yesterday's shoot-out. He also scored from the spot in the shoot-out and kept his school in the game throughout the match with some fine saves.
"Yes, we thought it could go to penalties. We have a strong defence. I was confident I would have saved them. I am the best on saving penalties," the Wolmer's goalkeeper boasted.
Meanwhile, Wolmer's coach, Vassell Reynolds, said he was delighted with the win.
"It was expected to be a close one. It was a dramatic win, we always tried to keep our shape and prepare mentally," he said.
Neville Bell, the St George's coach, said it was not to be for his team who just could not bounce back from Saturday's disappointing Manning Cup loss.
