Missing man found in morgue
For three months, Jahmel Henriques searched desperately for his uncle, Dennis Bennett, who had gone missing last Christmas. He plastered "missing" posters across the Corporate Area, hoping against hope for a sign. His heart ached each day as he wondered where Bennett could be.
In a bizarre twist, someone recognized the photo on his missing person poster. That person had seen Bennett's remains in a morgue and, moved by the discovery, took a photo and sent it to the investigating officer.
Dennis Bennett, who was last seen in the Rockfort area of eastern Kingston, had been dead since December 30, 2024. He had been struck by a Coaster bus in the early hours of the morning.
"Dem [the police] say the investigation show seh a my family wrong, a him walk out in the road. He was wearing a black shirt," Henriques explained.
Henriques said that his uncle wasn't mentally ill, just someone who loved the outdoors and was always on the move.
"Normally, if him a go weh, the most will be for like two or three days and come back, especially if he has money. And we gave him money for Christmas, so we just thought him gone to enjoy time with him friends," he said.
"Him have two kids - a son and a daughter - and him have a couple of grandkids," Henriques added.
He said Bennett had a family who cared deeply for him. His siblings were worried sick and one was even planning to travel to Jamaica to help with the search.
Just last Wednesday, after visiting THE STAR offices to plead for help in finding his uncle, Henriques received the heart-wrenching news of Bennett's death.
"I really wished we found him alive, everyone is mourning right now," Henriques said, his voice cracking as he tried to make sense of the unbearable loss.
